Researchers should strictly follow the standards and code of conduct of scientific research a

nd not embezzle or misuse scientific research funds, the Ministry of Education said on Wednesday.

They should not commit fraud to obtain a research

project, research fund and other awards or honorary titles, the ministry said.

Researchers should not seek reimbursement for items that they are supposed to

pay for themselves, and they should not embezzle funds for other purposes, it said.

Research projects that require external help should be made publ

ic at the university. If there are profits involved between the research leader

and external organizations, they should first sign a contract and submit it to the university, it said.

University administrative staff should not seek profi

ts or advantages in applying for and allocating research funds, the ministry said.

Guangzhou continues crackdown on animal smuggling

counterparts in the fight against endangered animal smuggling in the coming months, said a senior local customs officer.

“Top priorities will be given to big cases: major smuggling gangs, channels and networks,” said Zheng

Jun, deputy director of the Guangzhou customs anti-smuggling bureau, at a news conference in Guangzhou on Thursday.

According to Zheng, Guangzhou customs provided valuable and accurate information to its Malaysian count

erparts in January, resulting in the seizure by Malaysian customs officers of more than 60 kilograms of rhinoceros horns.

Zheng reiterated that customs officers from his bure

au have zero tolerance for smuggling and will introduce more high-tech means and big data

analysis to crack down on smugglers trafficking endangered animals and their products.

said. “The bridge has been reliable for years, even after several ships collided with the piers. The flow of traf

fic and the speed of vehicles have far exceeded the original design but have not affected its solidity.”

ign, said the bridge will continue to serve as a major road, rail and marine structure.

Turtle species nears extinction as last known female dies

The female turtle died after an artificial insemination procedure at the

Suzhou Zoo in Jiangsu province on Saturday. Though Chinese and foreign experts confir

med that it was healthy before the surgery, the animal went into a coma and never woke up.

The operation went well, according to the zoo. The f

emale turtle was more than 90 years old and had gone through four such procedures.

The experts harvested the turtle’s ovarian tissue and stored it in liquid nitr

ogen for future research. They are working on the carcass to determine the cause of death.

The turtle came from Changsha Zoo in Hunan province in 2008 to meet

the only male specimen in China, which continues to live at the Suzhou Zoo.
